Overview

Step-by-Step guide

Step 1 - Upload a new project into Wincaps III from robot controller

Connect Ethernet cable from your computer to the robot controller “LAN” port (not EtherNet/IP card port)

Create a new Wincaps III Project ‐> Change User Level to 1 – Programmer ‐> Press Shift + Down for Password

Go to “File” ‐> New Project ‐> Get information from controller ‐> Next
Input a Project Name and File save location ‐> Click on Next

Input the controller IP Address (192.168.0.1 – Default) ‐> Click Next
Confirm PC IP address is on same network as controller (192.168.0.XXX)
Go to “File” ‐> New Project ‐> Get information from controller ‐> Next

Select “Receive data from the controller” ‐> Click Finish

Step 2 - Generate Command slave license and activate in the controller

Go to the Denso Wave website and login https://www.denso‐wave.com/en/robot/index.html (if new user then please register first)
Select Member menu ‐> RC8 Free license Confirmation
Select “Command‐Slave” in the Product Name drop down list and Enter your controller serial # ‐> Click Send
Go to teach pendant “home” screen ‐> Setting ‐> Option ‐> Extension

NOTE
If “Option” or “Extension” category is not available, then check login level is “Programmer” – refer to manual on how to change login.

Scroll down until you see “Command‐Slave” under “Func” category and click “Add”

Input license key from website ‐> Click ‘OK” ‐> Verify that status is enabled

Step 3 - Download the AOI library and associated manuals

Go to the Denso Wave website and login https://www.denso‐wave.com/en/robot/index.html

Select “Downloads” ‐> “Application Software” ‐> Command‐Slave
Select and download the 3 items starting with “Rockwell Automation” ‐> Save them to your PC

NOTE:
The RC8 Controller firmware version must be 2.5.5 or higher to use this version of
Rockwell AOI.

NOTE:
The RC8 Controller must have an Ethernet IP communication card installed in it to use this version of Rockwell AOI.

Step 4 - Set Controller parameters for Ethernet IP connection and Command slave

1. Open Wincaps III project...
2. Select “Project” ‐> Properties ‐> Open I/O Tab
3. Select Device: EtherNet/IP Adapter
4. Select Mode: Standard Mode
5. Select I/O Power source: Internal or external
6. Select desired I/O Size in bytes (Max recommended)
7. Select desired Comm. Speed (Auto‐Negotiate is best)
8. Select Manual IP address for EtherNet/IP I/O card
(different IP address then controller LAN port)
9. Click “OK”

NOTE:
Allowable Input size range is 256‐496 bytes. Allowable Output size range is 256‐500 bytes. The input size is 4 bytes shorter due to the input header shift required with Rockwell PLC.

Select “Project” ‐> Parameters ‐> Click on I/O Section

Scroll down to Parameter 128 “Command‐Slave Start” and select “2” for version 2.0 in the drop-down menu

NOTE:
Scroll down to Parameter 160 “EtherNet/IP Input Run/Idle Header” and change to value “1” ‐> Click OK

Scroll down to Parameter 160 “EtherNet/IP Input Run/Idle Header” and change to value “1” ‐> Click OK
NOTE:
Rockwell PLC requires Input Header shift, but not all PLC require this shift.
Please check PLC provider manuals for specific requirements on header shift.

Step 5 - Download parameter changes to the Controller

Select “Connect” ‐> Transfer Data

Select I/O Parameters on Wincaps III side ‐> Click Send (sends data from Wincaps file to robot controller)

After download is complete, the controller will need to be rebooted

NOTE:
If an error occurs during download, please confirm pendant screen is on the home page (Press “Cancel” until home screen appears and retry)
